SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Program (Jun–Sep)
DESCRIPTION:The Vinyasa Artist-in-Residence Program is a four-month immersive living and research opportunity designed for artists and practitioners who wish to deepen their practice within a nature-led\, community-oriented environment. \n\n\n\nHosted at Vinyasa Earth\, this residency invites two selected artists to live\, explore\, and create between June and September\, while engaging with the space as both contributors and researchers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho This Is For\n\n\n\nWe invite applications from individuals working across disciplines such as: \n\n\n\n\nWellness Practitioners\n\n\n\nYoga Artists / Movement Practitioners\n\n\n\nCinematographers\n\n\n\nPhotographers\n\n\n\nPermaculturist\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis residency is for those who are not only skilled in their craft but are also curious\, self-driven\, and willing to engage deeply with process over outcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat the Residency Offers\n\n\n\n\n4-month residential stay at Vinyasa Earth\n\n\n\nDormitory accommodation\n\n\n\nVegetarian meals (daily)\n\n\n\nAccess to Vinyasa’s natural\, architectural\, and community spaces\n\n\n\nOpportunity to earn through workshops\, sessions\, or offerings hosted at the space\n\n\n\nA supportive environment for independent research and artistic inquiry\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResidency Focus: Research-Led Practice\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt the heart of this residency lies research as practice. \n\n\n\nEach artist is required to submit a detailed research proposal at the time of application. This proposal should clearly articulate: \n\n\n\n1. Research Topic\n\n\n\n\nWhat is the central question or inquiry?\n\n\n\nWhy is this relevant to your practice and the current moment?\n\n\n\n\n2. Scope & Depth\n\n\n\n\nWhat themes\, mediums\, or approaches will you explore?\n\n\n\nHow will Vinyasa as a space influence or support this inquiry?\n\n\n\n\n3. Methodology\n\n\n\n\nHow do you plan to conduct your research?\n\n\n\n(e.g.\, movement exploration\, documentation\, interviews\, community engagement\, site-based practice)\n\n\n\n\n4. Process Documentation\n\n\n\n\nHow will you record or document your journey?\n\n\n\n(journals\, video logs\, photo essays\, written reflections\, etc.)\n\n\n\n\n5. Proposed Outcomes\n\n\n\n\nWhat form might the research take by the end?\n\n\n\n(open-ended sharing\, installation\, performance\, film\, written work\, etc.)\n\n\n\n\n6. Tentative Timeline (June–September)\n\n\n\nA clear\, month-wise or phase-wise breakdown including: \n\n\n\n\nExploration phase\n\n\n\nExperimentation phase\n\n\n\nConsolidation phase\n\n\n\nSharing / presentation phase\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContribution to the Space\n\n\n\nResidency at Vinyasa functions as a collaborative exchange\, and contributions will be shaped based on the artist’s discipline\, strengths\, and the evolving needs of the space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile the exact nature of engagement will be discussed and mutually aligned over a call prior to final selection\, a tentative framework is outlined below: \n\n\n\n\nArtists are expected to offer consistent\, accessible engagements for the community. For example: A yoga practitioner may offer a daily 30-minute open session\, accessible to everyone present at Vinyasa.\n\n\n\nAdditionally\, artists will curate a deeper weekly or weekend offering\, such as:\n\nA 45–60 minute curated session\n\n\n\nA themed workshop or immersive practice\n\n\n\n\n\nThese offerings are intended to build rhythm\, community participation\, and shared experience within the space.\n\n\n\n\nIndependent Offerings & Revenue Sharing\n\n\n\nAs the residency does not include a stipend\, artists are encouraged to design and host their own paid offerings\, such as: \n\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\nMasterclasses\n\n\n\nPrivate sessions\n\n\n\nSpecialized experiences\n\n\n\n\nThese will operate on a revenue-sharing model\, with a 60–40 split (Artist–Vinyasa). \n\n\n\nThis structure allows artists to sustain themselves financially while deepening their engagement with their practice and audience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResearch Documentation & Submission\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe residency places strong emphasis on rigorous documentation and knowledge creation. \n\n\n\nArtists are required to: \n\n\n\n\nDevelop their research into a well-structured white paper or research document\n\n\n\nMaintain consistent documentation throughout the residency period\n\n\n\nSubmit their work in phases\, aligned with their proposed timeline\n\n\n\n\nDocumentation may include:\n\n\n\n\nWritten reflections and analytical notes\n\n\n\nProcess journals\n\n\n\nVisual documentation (photo/video)\n\n\n\nInterviews\, observations\, or community interactions\n\n\n\nPractice-based insights and findings\n\n\n\n\nFinal Submission Format\n\n\n\nThe final output must take the form of a comprehensive research document\, clearly articulating: \n\n\n\n\nResearch intent and context\n\n\n\nMethodology and process\n\n\n\nKey observations and learnings\n\n\n\nEvolution of practice\n\n\n\nFinal outcomes or propositions\n\n\n\n\nThis document will become part of the Vinyasa Archive\, contributing to a growing body of practice-led research emerging from the space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArchiving & Knowledge Building\n\n\n\nAll research developed during the residency will become part of the Vinyasa Archive. \n\n\n\nThis archive aims to: \n\n\n\n\nBuild a growing body of practice-based knowledge\n\n\n\nDocument diverse approaches to art\, movement\, and wellness\n\n\n\nServe as a resource for future residents and collaborators\n\n\n\n\nArtists will retain authorship\, while granting Vinyasa the right to document and share the work for archival\, educational and institutional purposes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nApplication Process\n\n\n\nThe selection process is designed to understand both the depth of the artist’s practice and their alignment with the space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStep 1: Proposal Submission\n\n\n\nApplicants are required to send a proposal via email to Vinyasa\, including: \n\n\n\n\nArtist Statement\n\n\n\nResearch Inquiry / Hypothesis\n\n\n\nTentative Approach & Methodology\n\n\n\nTimeline Projection of Research (June–September)\n\n\n\n\nThe proposal should clearly communicate the intent\, depth\, and direction of the artist’s inquiry. \n\n\n\nStep 2: Interview & Dialogue\n\n\n\nShortlisted applicants will be invited for a conversation with the Vinyasa team. This interaction will focus on: \n\n\n\n\nReview of past work and practice\n\n\n\nPresentation and discussion of the proposed research\n\n\n\nAlignment on contributions to the space\n\n\n\nUnderstanding expectations from both the artist and Vinyasa\n\n\n\n\nStep 3: Agreement & Alignment\n\n\n\nSelected artists will proceed with: \n\n\n\n\nFormalizing the residency through an agreement\n\n\n\nAligning on roles\, contributions\, timelines\, and shared expectations\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSelection & Availability\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnly 2 residency spots available\n\n\n\nSelection will be based on:\n\nDepth and clarity of proposal\n\n\n\nAlignment with Vinyasa’s ethos\n\n\n\nPotential for meaningful engagement with the space\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClosing Note\n\n\n\nThis is not a retreat. This is not a production residency. \n\n\n\nThis is a slow\, intentional\, process-driven immersion — for those who wish to live their practice\, question it\, and allow it to evolve in dialogue with land\, people\, and time.
