About the Artist
He nourishes his imagination through his passion for fusing art and poetry.
Born and raised in Punjab, Guntaj Deep Singh is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist working with photography, film, mixed media and language. While living in Vancouver, Canada between 2017 to Late 2025 , he devotedly contributed to the arts and culture of local queer and South Asian communities.
In his visual work, conventional and modern visual mediums work together in an aesthetic marriage of image & emotion – sliced from material both expository- the physical & social context in which he operates & the emotional- a more reflective and philosophical dimension. His artistic expression aims to induce conversations around queerness, culture, language, parallelism & the human condition in post-modern society. He is driven by the need for change, a shift in how we live in the current time and how we look at the possibilities of the future. A recurring theme in his work is this desire to make traditionalism meet modernism.
His work has been displayed at local & international art festivals, galleries and spaces including 5X, Salt Spring National Art Prize and Sikh Heritage Festival among a few others. His photographic series ‘Openly|ਸ਼ਰੇਆਮ ‘ which exhibited at the Salt Spring National Art Prize exhibition 2023-24 is now also available as a photo-poetry book on his website.
