The Vinyasa Artist-in-Residence Program is a four-month immersive living and research opportunity designed for artists and practitioners who wish to deepen their practice within a nature-led, community-oriented environment.
Hosted at Vinyasa Earth, this residency invites two selected artists to live, explore, and create between June and September, while engaging with the space as both contributors and researchers.
Who This Is For
We invite applications from individuals working across disciplines such as:
- Wellness Practitioners
- Yoga Artists / Movement Practitioners
- Cinematographers
- Photographers
- Permaculturist

This residency is for those who are not only skilled in their craft but are also curious, self-driven, and willing to engage deeply with process over outcome.
What the Residency Offers
- 4-month residential stay at Vinyasa Earth
- Dormitory accommodation
- Vegetarian meals (daily)
- Access to Vinyasa’s natural, architectural, and community spaces
- Opportunity to earn through workshops, sessions, or offerings hosted at the space
- A supportive environment for independent research and artistic inquiry
Residency Focus: Research-Led Practice

At the heart of this residency lies research as practice.
Each artist is required to submit a detailed research proposal at the time of application. This proposal should clearly articulate:
1. Research Topic
- What is the central question or inquiry?
- Why is this relevant to your practice and the current moment?
2. Scope & Depth
- What themes, mediums, or approaches will you explore?
- How will Vinyasa as a space influence or support this inquiry?
3. Methodology
- How do you plan to conduct your research?
- (e.g., movement exploration, documentation, interviews, community engagement, site-based practice)
4. Process Documentation
- How will you record or document your journey?
- (journals, video logs, photo essays, written reflections, etc.)
5. Proposed Outcomes
- What form might the research take by the end?
- (open-ended sharing, installation, performance, film, written work, etc.)
6. Tentative Timeline (June–September)
A clear, month-wise or phase-wise breakdown including:
- Exploration phase
- Experimentation phase
- Consolidation phase
- Sharing / presentation phase
Contribution to the Space
Residency at Vinyasa functions as a collaborative exchange, and contributions will be shaped based on the artist’s discipline, strengths, and the evolving needs of the space.

While the exact nature of engagement will be discussed and mutually aligned over a call prior to final selection, a tentative framework is outlined below:
- Artists are expected to offer consistent, accessible engagements for the community.
For example: A yoga practitioner may offer a daily 30-minute open session, accessible to everyone present at Vinyasa. - Additionally, artists will curate a deeper weekly or weekend offering, such as:
- A 45–60 minute curated session
- A themed workshop or immersive practice
- These offerings are intended to build rhythm, community participation, and shared experience within the space.
Independent Offerings & Revenue Sharing
As the residency does not include a stipend, artists are encouraged to design and host their own paid offerings, such as:
- Workshops
- Masterclasses
- Private sessions
- Specialized experiences
These will operate on a revenue-sharing model, with a 60–40 split (Artist–Vinyasa).
This structure allows artists to sustain themselves financially while deepening their engagement with their practice and audience.
Research Documentation & Submission

The residency places strong emphasis on rigorous documentation and knowledge creation.
Artists are required to:
- Develop their research into a well-structured white paper or research document
- Maintain consistent documentation throughout the residency period
- Submit their work in phases, aligned with their proposed timeline
Documentation may include:
- Written reflections and analytical notes
- Process journals
- Visual documentation (photo/video)
- Interviews, observations, or community interactions
- Practice-based insights and findings
Final Submission Format
The final output must take the form of a comprehensive research document, clearly articulating:
- Research intent and context
- Methodology and process
- Key observations and learnings
- Evolution of practice
- Final outcomes or propositions
This document will become part of the Vinyasa Archive, contributing to a growing body of practice-led research emerging from the space.
Archiving & Knowledge Building
All research developed during the residency will become part of the Vinyasa Archive.
This archive aims to:
- Build a growing body of practice-based knowledge
- Document diverse approaches to art, movement, and wellness
- Serve as a resource for future residents and collaborators
Artists will retain authorship, while granting Vinyasa the right to document and share the work for archival, educational and institutional purposes.

This is a slow, intentional, process-driven immersion — for those who wish to live their practice, question it, and allow it to evolve in dialogue with land, people, and time.
